Found a sweet priced RG550 Genesis DY today, gonna make it my new project guitar. I have too many JEM’s with EVO’s in them and two PIA’s so discounting Evos and UtoPIAs, what recommendations do you all have out there? I’m thinking Gravity Storms.

I recently repainted a 540r of mine and put a DiMarzio air classic bridge and true velvets in the middle/neck positions. I love it! Read about the air classic... It's definitely an interesting difference from a regular PAF. I loved it so much I am going to put the neck and bridge air classics in another 540r that has an HSH config. The true velvets are just as beautiful sounding clean or with gain.

I've got a superstrat with an Evo 2 bridge and PAF Pro in neck, I like it but I don't have any strong opinions about it. I find I like most of the pickups I have and I mostly sound the same either way, I have two sets of standard Evo's (from my Jem7V and 777-30th) and I like those too. I think you're better off just trying something and coming up with your own opinions because everyone likes different pickups, I like different pickups with the day of the week.

I'll get killed for this one, but......

Just love the way DiMarzio Super Distortions sound on my RG550DXRR, and my two RG350's.

That lower mid- punch just does it for me, it has replaced first generation Evo's, and the stock Inf8's.

Don't care, I'm just "old school" Lol.

Good luck on your journey, let us know what your decision was, and how it worked out for you.

Peace
Steve

What about a PAF Pro in the neck and EVO 2 bridge? Has anyone used DARK MATTER 2 pickups?
I have this same combo in an RG520QS and it works well. My first experience with an Evo2 in the bridge and it takes some getting used to... I wasn't fond of the sound when just trying it out after install, but when I cranked up a backing track to jam with it sounded good! Cuts through the mix!

I run a set of full shreds in my rg520qs. They are criminally underrated pickups.

The SD Full Shred is what I'm currently running in the bridge of the 7V, have been for a while actually. I like it a lot and I've owned the pickup for a long time. I originally bought it and dropped tt into my Fender Super Strat in 2003 but I swapped the Full Shred into the Jem and popped the Evo in the Strat a couple years ago just to have a change. I find people tend to not have good things to say about the Full Shred due to the accentuated highs, but I like it a lot (not more than the Evo though, but I have no strong preference for either).

Thanks for the suggestion... Digging the sound of demo's on youtube! I've heard of them, but why have I never considered these before?

The name usually makes guys look else where.
They are super tight, but also a bit vintage sounding, compared to evos or other "modern" pickups.

Just bump up the bass a notch or two on your amp and they slay!

Right? Yet they rarely complain about the evo.

The FS neck does blues, cleans, and high gain great.

The bridge is great for blues, rock, metal, and any high gain.

Sorry brother, my answer got cut in half. To me, the DM2 is a little more softer and mellow version of the Evolution, a little less output. Not so much "in your face" all out high output like the Evolution, But the DM2 does sing! Trust your ears, only you , know what you need, Hey brother, just give em a shot..

Sorry to revive my old thread, I’m sick at home and am catching up a year later. But I just wanted to update those that were interested. The Desert Yellow RG Genesis got Gravity Storm humbuckers and a UtoPIA middle single coil plus a Mad Hatter Evo system installed by Black Mountain Guitars, the same guys who do Steve’s guitars in Arizona. This guitar lives in Drop D and the Gravity Storms seems to absolutely SHINE in lower tunings. I really couldn’t be happier with this build, it’s my poor man’s 777 and I love it.
