Does any one know what type of net worth Vai is worth? I mean with all the G3 tours and favored nations and other projects? I wonder what type of living he makes can anyone guess

I'm sure he's living comfortably. The main thing is that he is obviously doing what he loves, though.

If you can live comfortably and do what you love as your profession, what else do you need?

women!
I would imagine his personal net worth would be a lot less than you'd think - he seems to get more joy out of charity stuff and Favoured Nations - and I can almost guarantee that a label based around guitar music just ain't shifting Britney Spears type numbers!
haha yeah, tho the man keeps bees so youd think hes doing pretty good. generous dude though :)
C'mon guys - He's a multi-millionaire.

Zappa
DLR
Whitesnake
All his solo albums, which he owns ALL publishing rights

He probably gets royalties from the movie Crossroads as well.

Not to mention Favored Nations and all his endorsement deals

I agree! Plus as mentioned in another post, if he gets $100 for ever Jem sold when the 50k Jem sells, that's $5M just from guitars. Also, all the tours he has done. In my opinion, he's worth 10 to 20M!

You also need to take in mind that, he doesn't have to pay for any of his guitars or gear, so that cuts back alot on his everyday spending.
Very true! But I'm sure he spent a lot on his studios!

Hehe, you said "everyday". Spoken like a true GAS-fiend.
I'd never speculate about Steve's financial worth. However, having met him a few times- he's a very smart man. I'm sure he's made wise decisions. He's also had some smart businessmen around him in the form of his longtime attorney and Frank Zappa's advice to keep his publishing.

More importantly, it seems that Steve has done what I think most of us would like to do- do something you love for a job, have a wife and children, and support a lifestyle you enjoy. How could it be better?

Well said. Not sure what he's worth, but someday I'll help a bit by buying a Jem or UV (new obviously, but I think I'll get a used one first). ;)
Someone here quoted him before as saying something along the lines of that he got $6 or $7 for each copy of PAW and then it sold 500,000 copies - I may have misremembered statistics, but however you look at it he's doing fairly well.

I'm more curious as to whether he had to pay full price for his Pro Tools equipped studio, seeing as I've seen quotes for that stuff going into the $100ks.

Same goes for Petrucci and his huge rack system, although he probably gets the amps free at least.
I wouldn't have thought Vai would be as much as some people would think - I doubt very much he's topping the 10 million mark - thats a hell of a lot of money guys, and yeah he's a successful recording artist, but he's not on U2 money (getting paid 50grand per minute they're on stage lol).

Having said that, I'm sure he's living comfortably - I guess he gets money from all his endorsements from Ibanez, Carvin, Morley etc.

Oh, and someone said something about Petrucci getting his amps for free - he doesn't. He pays for them (although probably at a cheaper price).
I would really like to know his sale numbers for his different solo albums. I know that PAW sold more than 1 million and his Live DVD has gone platinum but what about S&R etc.

How many does he have now 3 or 4?

I have often wondered this myself.
On a semi related note I wonder if it was a tough adjustment going from playing sold out arenas with Whitesnake, to playing little concert halls like when I saw him on the Ultra Zone tour (Which wasn't even sold out if I remember right)
The cost in putting on a tour has to be up there.
