I need a neck pickup to go with my Tonezone in my RG570 and ive been thinking either Paf Pro or Air norton, because those seem to be the common choices. WHich one do you think would be better? OR do you guys have any other suggestions for a neck pickup. I want a good shred/lead sound from it, and also a nice classic sound and for my chords be defined even under distortion.

Yeah, I wouldn't go with the Air Norton just because it isn't as clear as a PAF pickup IMO. The PAF Joe is lower output than a PAF Pro but I hear from the Dimarzio tech that it is cleaner and the strings have better definition.

I haven't played the PAF Joe, but the Air Norton fits the bill with your needs. It is a TRUE neck lead pickup. Smooth, velvety, warm, and very clear. It has the same quality for cleans... think more warm jazz than sparkly single-coil. Very rich and detailed, as well as round and warm ;) When split/parallel however, gives a great vintage-y neck single coil-type sound. Kinda reminiscent of SRV, with that medium power, warm Strat vibe. Very musical!

I'm betting the AN and PAF Joe aren't night and day different from each other. Probably just slightly different powered/different voiced versions of a similar sound/design. Either will do you well I bet, but to ease your concerns, I heartily endorse the AN for anything in the neck.

I really like the sound of the PAF Pro I put in my RG750, it's a good match for the Super Distortion in the bridge. I also like the one in my friends 540R, it goes well with the TZ in it also...

I'm looking forward to hearing my new Breed that's going in the neck of my other RG750...

Look into Dimarzio's Virtual PAF. I have a TZ7 and a PAF-7 in my Revenger-7 and it's a good combo. More variety than the TZ/AN combo on my other guitar.

I like Air Norton, but if you're looking for a more "classic" neck pickup tone Virtual PAF or something similar might be a better choice. They handle Hi-Gain well so you're shred tones won't be affected at all.
