A typical yellow wood glue, such as Titebond, works well.

'Speed Bond' is a good wood glue that's very strong and available in the UK (Craft Supplies sell it). Normal white wood glue is good enough but it is quite slow drying whereas the Speed Bond starts to cure in around 5 minutes.

You'd obviously have to leave it a lot longer before putting any stress on the joint but at least it will hold itself together after 5 minutes.
I used it to glue an acoustic guitar headstock back on and it's solid. The joint formed by these type of wood glues is actually stronger than the wood itself.:)

I'm not sure about a good filler (never needed to use it)but they also sell that at Craft Supplies in the UK.
