Recently I have noticed that when I do a hammer - on around the 12th fret on my 4th and 5th strings the string buzzes on the fret directly behind were I am fretting. The buzz can’t be heard through the amp but I never had this buzz before? I recently moved my string gauge from 9's to 10's but the guitar has been correctly setup for that so I don't know what could be wrong it never did this when I had 9's on the guitar. Since the noise does not come through the amp I am not very concerned about it but I am curious as to why. By the way putting 10's on the 7vwh was the best thing I ever did the tone is vastly improved from when I was using 9’s. Just so you all know I did go to Rich’s web page and followed all his excellent setup instructions and everything is just as he said it should be.
Any info you guys might have would be great.
Thanks in advance J

Maybe with the extra mass of the 10's from the 9's you are hearing the ringing of the string behind your finger. When hammering, say the 12th fret, the string will ring between the 11th fret and nut too if it has the clearance. Unless other fingers are there damping it. A buzz though? Maybe the truss rod is a bit tighter with your 10's setup and the neck has enough backbow to get buzz from the behind-the-fret-finger ringing? Either way, long as the pickups aren't recognizing it, and it plays cool, should be fine.
