Ryc, how would you compare it to an F2 or a FRED?

What's the bridge pickup in your Screaming Eagle?

I"m considering putting one of these in the bridge position of my Floral Jem since to try something different from the PAF Pro.
Sorry Jess, I didn't see this before.

The GS has a little more lo-mids than the F2 but it's more open sounding. I think that almost everything DiMarzio says about it is wrong. They make it sound like the high-end is muted.......it's not. The high-mids and highs are VERY similar to the F2. Pinch harmonics are a breeze (almost JB like). If I had to make a comparison the F2 is what I'd say it's most like. Just more sophisticated.

Mag's right, nothing in common with a FRED.

I have the original mega-drive and PAF in the USA now...... that will change soon enough....

I know how much you like the F2 so I think you'll love this in your FP. Your FP is guard mount, right?

Yeah the FP is guard-mount. Thanks for the feedback, Ryc. You're right, the description of the pickup is TERRIBLE. The EQ curve looked way off to me and with the bizarro Vai-esque description (why is he so strange?), I went in a different direction on my RGT. But I think I'd like to to this in something.

So now that the first days of romance are gone, I can say the Gravity Storm in the neck position is an excellent choice for those who find the Evolution too compressed or those who find alnico pickups way too fat or vintage but don't want a thin sounding ceramic pickup like the Super 2.

I'll answer your question in 2 words:

Frank Zappa :lol::lol:

How does the neck compare to an air-norton?
It retains the same liquid tone as the Air Norton but comes with more output, and it doesn't sound like a typical ceramic pickup because it's fat like a Liquifire. It's not as compressed, nasal or vintage sounding as the Air Norton either.

I wouldn't say it sounds double-tracked as some have menctioned around here.

So the breed is my favorite neck pickup, I've decided that's what's going in the neck of my floral Jem. Would a Gravity storm bridge be too contrasting to go with that? I would like something in the bridge with more chutzpah than the breed bridge.

Dominion maybe? I currently have the gravity storm set in my rg920m and have a dominion bridge I might put in instead.... just need to stop being lazy :)

I'm very interested in the Gravity Storm, but just as a guide-line kind of thing, how does it compare to the 'classic' pickups like the Super Distortion, Tone Zone or Duncan JB?

Ah, just found your review.
Looks like it's pretty much the pickup I'm looking for after all.

I guess I'm going for one of these together with a Fast Track and a Pro Track for my Roadstar.

Thats a good choice. Ive got the Chopper(B) with the FastTrack 1(M) and Pro Track(N) in my '88 540SLR and its a good combo. I have the Gravity Storm(B) with the FastTrack1(M) and the Billy Corgan(N) in my '96 Jackson. Both are good combos that compliment each other nicely.
The Corgan is fatter and more bubbly than the Pro Track though. The Chopper and Gravity are similar in ways.

Finally got my RG1550 with my blue GS' on Saturday so I'll give some initial impressions:

I have no idea why, but they dont pick up pinch harmonics as well as other pickups I've been using (Dimarzio IBZ/Evos). I've made a REALLY conscious effort to see how well they pick up but maybe it's the pickup height that's the problem. I might raise them a tad and see if that helps.

On the other hand, with the current pickup height they sound AMAZING. Due to the lower output they are much easier to use than the Evos. As I havent had a lot of time to play around with them (i will today though) I'll get a better idea of how they work for me today. I totally forgot how to play Breaking the law so I'll play that today with the GS'.
