Is the zoom G7.1ut worth $230

As the title says, is it worth this amount? There is a guy selling one second hand, I want a quality multi-effects pedal just to mess around with.

I would assume this doesn't compare with the likes of the Boss GT-10 and the Line-6 Pod XT. Is this correct?

Well, I prefer not to mess with tube stuff...there's a series of inconveniences that come with tube stuff that I prefer not to have.

What I can say is that when I was deciding on a multi-fx board, I studied the zoom, vox, digitech, pod and gt-10, and ended up getting the gt-10. If you like to mess with a lot of effects, the gt-10 is a lot more flexible than the others. Plus it's Boss...thing is built like a tank.

What incoveniences?
This rocktron pre has only 1 tube !
It's not a head with 400 tubes LOL
And it sounds like a full tube rig with a poweramp and effects.
And for only 250 usd!
So why buying a zoom?
And if you want to seel this rocktron it'll keeps its market place BUT zooms never.

Don't listen to 6fingers, he thinks everyone should just get mesa regardless of their situation. ;) (I know you pointed towards Rocktron this one time)

The Zoom G7.1ut can get you some great tones if you are running it direct or through the effects send of a solid state amp.

I had one for a few years before I got my new amp, and the only reason I traded it in for some stomp boxes was because the G7 isn't capable of running purely in an effects loop utilising just the effects. I sort of wished I had saved a little more and gone the G7.2tt back when I got it.

The Zoom has some very convincing effects, and there are a few great amp sims. I particularly loved the JCM 800 model with a bit of extra boost.

The Zoom is also built very well, far more sturdier than the old Zoom stuff.

Wrong.
I only point to mesa boogie WHEN people ask which amp should they buy but they don't say their budgets.
BUT when they say their budgets like this dude ,I give another suggestion just like this rocktron which you can buy it for a zoom's price.
And for real Rocktron is in a different level than zoom.
It's top quality.
When I was changing my zooms or digitech's tubes, guess what?Without its tube those things still works and it didn't change their sound a bit!
They have tubes just to make us pay more but they really don't affect the tone, that's why they're toys.
I'm just giving a professional option in the same price range. If everybody come here and say yeah buy a zoom, well there are no options so it's not helping him.
Yep don't listen to me and buy a zoom,be another dude complaining about how sterille and dead your tone is.
Next step is how do I get Vai's tone with my zoom?
LOL

6fingers - calm it down.

Putting a "lol" in your post doesn't automatically make the contents of your post less offensive to folks.

Thanks in advance.
Offensive?!
I don't get it cause it's about equipment and not about people.
I didn't say anything about this or that member,I only gave opinions about dead things=equipment.
I don't know where I was rude but still I'm sorry if I was.

My buddy who has some of the best tone I've ever heard from anyone uses a zoom G7 in his rig. IMO it's a terrific piece of gear. It's a bit harder to work than the POD XT or Vox Tonelab or any of those, but once you get the hang of it, it's really good.

6Fingers, if you don't want people crapping on you for your posts, I might suggest rewording it in a way that doesn't involve insulting the gear in question. For example, instead of "zoom that thing down a cliff", you can say something like "I don't like this particular ME unit because...". Garbage posts like that don't help anyone.

Now let's cut out the fighting before the mods ban all of you wackos, and get back to the topic at hand. Scotte, I'd advise you try it out before you buy (at a local shop or somewhere else), but personally I think you'd be satisfied.

I agree to you BUT I'm very honest about equipment cause I've been testing them through my entire life, when I hate ....I hate, when I like... I like.I never asked anyone to agree with me,I just gave my opinions and opinions at the end mean nothing cause HE has to test everything before buying cause we all have different tastes and ears.
But you have to admit,a zoom rolling down a cliff is sooooooo funny lol

I hate to tell you 6fingers, but Rocktron only runs the signal through the tubes to warm up the sound a bit, the preamp is still digital. That said, Rocktron does make great stuff, I've used lots of their stuff since the old ProGap and Maxe preamps. The original ProGap is a great sounding preamp, it's digital controlled ss analog. But, is Rocktron the "only" company that makes good stuff, NO. My current setup is a Digitech RP1000, a Rivera Rake head, and an OD pedal or two in the stomp loop of the RP1000. I'm using the RP1000 because it has great amp models, but is also very easy to set up to work in the "4CM" with a real amp with the amp models off. They are the first to really implement this setup easily. (For you Boss guys, I know it can be done with the GT-6, 8, and 10s, I used to use a 6).

So, the original question was about the Zoom, I can't answer that one, don't know the current going price for them, but, if it gets the sounds you want and is a good deal, go for it.

Hi everyone,

I have a similiar question.

I have been playing guitar on and off for 15 years, but have never been able to remain committed to it.

6 years back I purchased a Zoom GFx-5 pedal. However, I have been playing mainly classical and I had stored the pedal away. Now I am back playing electric and this time I wanna stick to it and become really good at it. So I dug up my old GFX-5 and saw that it is giving me slight problems with the patch editing. The EQ button gets pressed automatically while I am changing other stuff like the Drive. Nothing major that I cant work with.

However, a guitar shop here is having a sale for Zoom pedals and I can afford to buy a G7.1ut. Is it a good upgrade? Or should I practice more with my GFX-5 and save up to get a better one like G9 when I finally go for gigs again?

The reason I am even considering this is coz I get easily disheartened if I dont get the tone I need. But I have friends telling me that its better to practice with crappy tones so that I will put in extra effort to make my playing sound good instead of purely relying on the tone. Any comments on that?

Please dont start comparing MFX to stomp boxes. I have read enough of that. Since I am a bedroom player, I will be happy with an MFX.

You're friends are right. If you really want to improve this time, forget about tone and focus on your guitar skills.
