When i turn the unit on the volume is cut drastically and is heavily compressed.
Is this how its supposed to work? I tried to compensate by using a preset without any delay on it, but the tone of my amp is gone and replaced with this compressed turd sounding thing

i'm going through the effects loop of my amp -> ENGL Thunder

please help, as I'll be returning it if this is how its supposed to work

Check the loop settings on your amp...I am not familiar with Engl amps but some have level controls and may also have a setting to differentiate between rack gear and stomp box type gear.

I have this same unit and use it without problem in the loops of my Mesa and Rivera amps. I did have to exchange the first one I got due to a glitch, but this one has been right as rain for 2 years nows. I think it sounds fantastic and I'm picky...so that makes me think you got a dud.

Be sure to run it from the power supply and not batteries, this thing absolutely swallows batteries. Mine runs off a Voodoo lab pedal power 2 with no issues. If these units don't get the right power they will not function properly. 18volts running at above 2000mA is the minimum I think.

it says 9v 1200mA minimum on the back, and i'm using a line6 power supply.
my effects loop only has a level knob dry->effect, and a guy at another forum said line6 effects don't like line-level input so won't work in an effects loop.

the general sound of the unit is really poor, unless i'm doing something wrong, when the delayed note sounds out it makes it sound really messy to me. i've tried all the delays at various delay times, and I just can't find a good sound.

maybe post one of your settings for a solo sound that I could test out?

So you know it's not low batteries which is good...not sure what the other guy is talking about, but as I mentioned I use mine in my effects loops all the time with no issues like that at all. Dunno?

Seeing as how you've already tried it in front of the amp with decent results, sounds like your effects loop is the culprit. Maybe someone at Engl can help you out, or your local amp tech. Sorry I can't be of more help to you.

Matt, if you go by various reports on the unit that are on the net, this pedal isn't a great choice for the effects loop of your amp. It sounds way better with a pedal in front of it through a clean amp's input.

I use mine for more vintage sounds like a strat>voodoo labs superfuzz/big muff pi>DL-4>marshall amp's input. I run the amp clean and get the distortion from the pedal. I also like to use it to put a little funk on some drum patches.

If you want something to add some jape to a high gain tube sound then you might want to take it back and look for something else 'cause with my stuff, it just didn't work out that great for that application.

I totally have to agree it aint muc huse in the loop. I got one and loved it. The theory behind these is great its a half way house between rack type programbility flexibility and ease of a stomper. However for some reason in the loop the volume does somewhat decrease and its hard to get it to sound cool as just a delay unit.

I sold mine and am just sticking with the boss dd-5 for the time being. I loved the differnt delay effects but it was a lot of hassle :( i'm on the look out for another delay unit stomper that has different kinds of delays like the L6 unit. If anyone knows of any please drop a line.

Different people say different things about it needing to be in the loop or in front of the amp. It sounds "best" in front of the amp but then of course you're not ading delay to your distortion but the other way around which for me is a nasty no-no.

Anyway good luck with it all let us know how you get on

Later

I think that the Yamaha UD stomp does that, along with many chorus and modulation programs as well.

You can have up to eight running simultaneously! 8O

Um, slightly off topic, but is there any rackmount delay aside from the Gibson Echoplex that even approaches that thing's sampling power? I got into recording working with Sonic Foundry Acid, so I've always thought in terms of loops, and lately I've been REALLY digging stuff like Sean Malone/Gordian Knot's "Grace." I'd love to grab a delay/sampler that I can use for run-of-the-mill delay stuff but also do some real-time sampling/layering with, but at just about a grand for the unit, I'm a little hesitant. Ok, a LOT hesitant, as I think I have to bite the bullet and buy a car first, lol.

I know the rackmount Line6 delay can do some sampling, but what kind of capacity are we talking? Can it store multiple loops and is there some sort of an undo function? Also, how does the rackmount Line6 sound in the loop? Thanks! :)

Not sure about the sampling/looping power of the rackmount unit, the stomp version only does like 16 seconds or something...I forget.

Try out a RC-20 loop station from Boss. you can store samples and recall them, it's got 10 memory locations with 10 minuts of total sample time. It's a little tricky to learn, I'm still trying to figure mine out, but I'm slow when it comes to that stuff.

Just to add I sent it back today, and now have a TC Electronics M300 rack effects thing instead.
I'm using it mainly for the reverbs which are B E A utiful.
I read there was a delay when changing between patches, this might be a bit of a git, but I'm not sure if I'll be using effects other than delay, and the reverb engine is seperate which is great.
only ÂŁ144 too :)
