Need help with EQ - heavily distorted sound

I need help dialing in a perfect sound.  I play with a very heavily distorted sound.  I have plenty of mids, but it seems the only time I can get good tight, crunchy, lows, is when there is a huge mid scoop.  Then I don't cut through and can't be heard.  When I have my mids where I like them, I can be heard but my lows suffer.  They get flabby sounding instead of gut wrenching...  Are there some crucial frequencies I should be dialing out in the low-mid range or what?  Any suggestions to keep mids, but get tight lows?

BTW, I'm playing a PRS through a Mesa 50/50, a rocktron Voodu Valve, the Alesis EQ, and a Sonic Maximizer...

Need help with EQ

Reduce the low-end frequencies. The low-end is handled by the bass guitar.

Remember also that all these perceptions of sound change depending on the acoustics of the various venues and rehearshal space. So that "sound" you dial in at the studio/rehearsal space won't sound the same as in your living-room or basement.

Dialing in more bass will only mask most of your guitar tones, thus enticing you to add more volume...You don't need to play louder, just smarter. Mids are especially sensitive to volume so the first thing you should do is find the right playing volume and go from there.

At least you understand that mids are necessary with an electric guitar. Most players don't understand that. Last but not least, be careful with the sonic maximizer...Lots of bass posibilities there.
