Hi all 20 years on its the 20th aniversarry of that famous guitar album passion and warfare by the guitar god steve vai.
it had an amazingly powerfull influence on my music and life.
the album cover alone is amazing and kinda haunts me and relates to my deeper thoughts on life and beyond.

So say thanks to steve vai for changing my life as i somtimes think if i hadnt taken up guitar and hadnt dicovered his music i wouldnt have had drive to practice and life may have been more boring. and i wouldnt be working as a guitar teacher.
here is my cover of for the love of god in tribute. not a carbon copy. a celebration in thanks heres what i knocked out today. peace and love and whatever lol

Like most of the Vai or Paul Gilbert stuff, P&W pretty much made me want to give up playing. Of course, we all can't be Vai or Gilbert, so life goes on... but it was pretty awe inspiring record. I had it playing in my car for about a year of high school, every day.

thats what i like about the guitar you can only be you and the secret is to focus on the good parts of your playing and work on them. one thing i like about vais playing is the idea of playing a mode over a chord to really bring out the flavour of the mode. rather than just noodleing in a key over a collection of harmonised chords

I have this cd as well as a few of his other solo albums. I also think it is one of the best instrumental albums ever...... Sometimes, for me, his use of effects is a bit too much over the top, but that is just me. My favorite Steve Vai is still the DLR band stuff, though. I guess I'm just more into songs with vocals, and to hear his wild playing and groovin' riffs within a catchy, sing a long, rockin' tune----that's what I like best.

I think it's the most "complete" guitar album ever, some sort of instrumental concept album that even some non-guitarists "got". It kind of made excessive guitar in its own right almost cool. I also think that this album has cost me more money than any other ;)

By far Steve Vai's best work - a masterpiece.

PAW is the reason I own this.

For The Love Of God is my favourite piece of recorded music ever and down here in Australia we don't have access to these great performers like you do in the US so I consider myself a lucky man I caught Vai live here sometime in the 90s and experienced it live.

funnily enough, when my uncle died he wanted me to play for the love of god in the church so i did sounded amazing with the reverb in there. its hard enough to get through it as is but even harder when crying and seeing the audience cry too, then when we poped him in the crem fire on exit he wanted come on feel the noise played out. was a cool send off.

P&W actually made me start learning what it was like to really understand complex rhythm, melody, and guitar playing. Totally opened up my mind to what there was behind the "shredding". I made the decision the second I heard the album through once that I'd try to be a better guitar player, both technically and musically.

Then along came Surfing with the Alien and that stole my heart....

I'll never forget the first time i heard PAW as no other album i have ever listened to has changed/blown me away like it did, it changed everything i ever thought about the guitar and what it could do in 1hour, it just left me floored for weeks and blew my mind upon every listen, felt like the first time a guitar was trying to communicate to you via sound- this was the guitarist i was looking for and i was determined to learn every song seeing them as stepping stones to enhance my playing/techniques as the songs are far beyond amazing- to this day i still feel like PAW has been the greatest album for my musicality and the skills i now posses as a guitarist.
To me, this album is second to none, pure music perfection.
