Hi to all.
Alan invite me to post in forum, then i have a question for all:

I am looking for a good schematic...

i have 3 Humbuckers: Set Dimarzio BREED for Bridge and Neck, and HS-2 for middle, that seems be a single coil but is a Humbucker too... i notices 5 wires from this pickup.

I want a schematic that let me set all positions, included single coil position for all mics, for a STRAT sound. I have only 2 pots, and 5way switchs. I can use PUSHpull for avoid make another hole in the guitar. I want not put a new hole in the wood, with 2 is fine.

Have you some sugestion?

This pickups are often called "Rail humbuckers" or "Single Coil like Humbuckers".

As far as I know, you can't do this with a normal 5-way switch. A Push/Pull pot will you offer you more cobinations of the pickups installed but won't offer more space to solder too.

You'll need a multipole 5 way switch.

That is for now. Schematic for wiring all the pickups but in normal positions like this:

1. Full Humbucker (Neck) (Series) (Hum-canceling)
2. Start Like Single Coils (Neck + Middle) (Series) (Hum-canceling)
3. Full Rail Humbucker (Middle) (Series) (Hum-canceling)
4 Start Like Single Coils (Bridge + Middle) (Series) (Hum-canceling)
5. Full Humbucker (Bridge) (Series) (Hum-canceling)

You needed a Multipole because you can't achieve the 2nd and 4th positions on a normal 5 way switch using a Rail humbucker in the middle.

oww man!

thanks a lot...

but i have a question now...
is convenient SPLIT the HS2 pickup (on middle)?

is needed for Hum cancelling with another mic?

Can you explain about SERIE connection?
you refer it but i have not a big idea about it.. i think that you mean: South mic and North mic of the humbucker connected togheter by Positive and negative and using only 1 positive and negative on the switch... is that ok? or i am confused?

have you Schematics about your idea?

Sorry, I thought that the HS-2 is the like the shape of the Chopper/Cruiser which have 2 coils (Rail Shape), but as far as it 4 wires, this means it has 2 coils not 1 like the singles, so it is a hum-cancelling pickup even if its shape is like a single coil. It has 4 wires (Red, Black, White, Green) + a 5th bare wire which is always grounded. So we are still on, Let's continue

Well to make the positions hum-canceling 2nd and 4th position to get the Start Like Sound, we will need to make the lower coil of the HS-2 is always off in these 2 positions, thus making the upper coil of the HS-2 work with the inner coil of the Breed in the Neck in position 2 and work with the inner coil of the Breed in the Bridge in position 4. That is simply can't be achieved with a normal 5-way switch. You need a 5-way MultiPole switch.

If you still can't understand why, simply the 2nd and 4th positions will the guitar acts exactly like an H S H guitar and an H S H guitar has a single coil in the middle not a Humbucker, so to convert this humbucker to a single, we need to turn the lower coil off, so we have a single coil. I can draw you an illustration if you wanted.

SERIES Connection is connecting both the coils of the humbucker in series formation.
In another words, the signal goes into the upper coil of the humbucker and the signal also goes into the second coil and then their output is added together.

For example, you played a note, then the signal is 5 in the upper coil as well as 5 in the lower coil, then the output is 10. That is just a simplification.

For wiring them, the +ve of the north coil goes to hot connection while the -ve of the north coil and the +ve of the south coil are connected together then the -ve of the south coil is grounded.

Yes, I have one, but this is only for what I've illustrated above. I don't have a scheme for making the humbuckers are tapped alone in each of the positions (making the guitar an SSS)

http://www.dimarzio.com//media/diagrams/B2.pdf

This scheme will make the guitar like this:

1. H (N)
2. SS (N+M)
3. H (M)
4. SS (M+B)
5. H (B)

Someone could help you one with Push/Pull to be able to achieve S S S formation.

I am on the more poor country on the World: Argentina...
then you can imagine the problem for get a Multipole Switch LOL

Realy, i will look for it...
What about Pushpull? how can i connect it for off the HUMcanceling?
have you schematics?

Thanks bro!! you are my Supporter! you are officialy invited to my house for make noise with me.. .XD

btw... i was thinking about one thing...
i think we can choice 3 ways for our project (HHH 2 pots 1 switch and All possible positions)...
1- using Push pull in both pots, for split the humb or not.
2- using the EP1112 (dimarzio accesorie) 5 ways multipole switch.
3- or canceling the Switch and puting miniswitchs on each Pickups... is rare but is possible use a miniswitch with 6 poles i think for put, 1 coil, other coil, both coils, or OFF...

what you think???

what about use the EP1112 and Pushpull ???
we can take more than 20 pickups sets with this combo or nOt?
is usefull?
For do it... i think is necesary use the 5 ways multipole switch and 1 pushpull at least, ex:

Right?

i will awaiting your news about the project ;) GL with that!

I didn't know that we can make that using a normal 5 way switch, this way we will not need a 5 way multipole switch (EP1112).. What is your guitar ? (Ibanez switches are different from normal switches).

Ok. I will use 1 Volume Push/Pull Pot, 1 Tone Pot and a 5 Way Switch. I don't prefer mini switches. That applies for you too. We will have 10 different sounds. 5 with pot pushed down and 5 when switch pulled up (Mainly a strat like guitar)

I want to revise how the guitar will work:

Push down : (All Hum-Cancelling)

1. Full Neck Humbucker (Series) -- Fine
2. Full Neck Humbucker + Full Middle lil Humbucker (Series) -- Not Fine
3. Full Middle lil Humbucker (Series) -- Fine
4. Full Bridge Humbucker + Full Middle lil Humbucker (Series) -- Not Fine
5. Full Bridge Humbucker -- Fine (Series) -- Fine

Pull up:

1. South Single Coil Neck -- Fine (Series) -- Fine
2. South Single Coil Neck + North Single Coil Middle (Series)(Hum-Cancelling) -- Fine
3. North Single Coil Humbucker (Series) -- Fine
4. North Single Coil Bridge + North Single Coil Middle (Series)(Hum-Cancelling) -- Fine
5. North Single Coil Bridge-- Fine (Series) -- Fine

I think that will you do, if not at least what will that Seymour Duncan Schematics will do?

But did you ask yourself, why it will work with 3 lil humbuckers while not with 2 Full humbucker and 1 lil humbucker ?

Well, in the positions 2 and 4 when the knob is pushed down, Your Breed in the neck and the HS-2 will work together in series. The Breed is too powerful for the HS-2, That combination in series will be definitely bad, both in Bridge and Neck.Same as parallel. I don't think you will make the work like a Normal H S H guitar (Same position of the 2 and 4 when the knob is pulled up for your guitar). So you are duplicating both positions again. So a good option available is to connect them in Parallel. instead in series for these 2 positions 2 and 4. This means we will need a Multi-Pole. That combination could never be achieved using a 5 way strat switch.

In the schematic, that you see, all of them are lil humbuckers, so they are close in output, while comparing Breed to the HS-2, the breed is simply a beast.

That what I will do in my project as well. :D

Thanks again!!
you are giving me "light" on this! :D

My guitar for this project is an Ibanez RG570 Japan (year 2001, Edge Pro)
She have (the guitar, is a girl) 2 Humb and single on middle.
V7, V8 and S1
is correct? are 2 humb and 1 single?

What kind of Switch have this guitar?

I will need the multipole switch and the pushpull ?

#12 ·
Yea V7 and V8 are passive humbuckers. S1 is single coil.

This guitar has a Custom Ibanez Switch, I found that the poles of the Switch are inverted from the normal.

If you opened your guitar from the back, you should find that there is 8 poles in a row (That is called an Import type 5 way switch).

The normal Import type 5 way switch should be like that with the H S H configuration guitar:

1. Bridge
2. Middle
3. Neck
4. Connection
5. Connection
6. Bridge
7. Middle
8. Neck

The ibanez switch that me and you have in our guitars has this following arrangment (#3PS1CGAE5 Switch):

1. Neck
2. Middle
3. Bridge
4. Connection
5. Connection
6. Neck
7. Middle
8. Bridge

So as you see, Bridge is inverted with Neck and vice versa. So it is not a big problem.

Anyway, if you will go with the Seymour Duncan configuration in the diagram, You won't need a new switch, however you still need the Push/Pull to get the strat like sound (All splited Single Coils)

If you want the humbuckers in parallel in positions 2 and 4 when the pot is pushed down. You may need to wait, because Dimarzio still didn't reply to me !

Also, The wires' colors from Seymour Duncan are not like Dimarzios'. That is for Full Humbuckers and not mini ones

mini humbuckers are the lil ones, like the HS-2 .. It is mini humbucker :p

Full Humbucker is the large humbucker as you see the 2 coils beside each other like the Breed.. Easy :D

I am confused.

Could you tell me what you exactly want in that form :
According to your combinations, I'll figure out if you need a 5 way super switch (Multipole) or not !

Push/Pull is pushed down:

Positions:

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Push/Pull is pulled up

Positions:

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

My project has a different combination.

All what you can get is 10 different tones at each, with moving the volume and tone up and down.. 5 With the the push-pull pot on Volume or Tone Pushed down and when it's pushed up.

About the Color Codes, the forgot to add Ibanez Pickups :p.. here you go:

http://www.guitarelectronics.com/category/wiringresources.wiring_faqs.pickup_color_codes/

That is all :)

Good Luck

Recommend me a diagram.
Because, i am realy confused now.
:(

I think... i need all this combos:

(FULL HUM ALONE)
1. Full Neck Humbucker (Series)
2. Full Middle lil Humbucker (Series)
3. Full Bridge Humbucker (Series)

(HUM COMBOS)
4. Full Neck Humbucker + Full Middle (is good combination?)
5. Full Neck Humbucker + Full Bridge ( " ) I thinks it will be powerfull...
6. Full Bridge Humbucker + Full Middle ( " )
7. Full Bridge + Middle + Neck (all in series, I think is not posibble or good)

(SINGLE COIL strat-like sound)
8. South Single Coil Neck
9. South Single Coil Neck + North Single Coil Middle (Series)(or parallel?)
10. North (or South?) Single coil Middle
11. North Single Coil Bridge
12. North Single Coil Bridge + North Single Coil Middle (Series)(or parallel?)
13. North Single Coil Bridge + North Single Coil Middle + South Single Coil Neck (like Power setup of Lace sensor on some fenders)

but... whats the difference spliting and using NORTH or SOUTH on the StratLike ??

and what about that you said, parallel on some power combinations...

#16 ·
Ok.. That is good and bad...

We will work on the full humbucker Mode..

You can only have 5 combinations.. why ? Because your switch is 5 way switch :D

So, Combination #4 and #6 are is bad one. As I told ya before, the Breed is too powerful for the HS-2 to combine. SO I suggested connected the neck and bridge in parallel in Positions 2 and 4 instead of having the Neck+Middle in Position 2 or Bridge+Middle in Position 4.
I never tried Combination #7.. it would deadly.
Combination #1, #2, #3, #5 are possible and good for Humbucker Mode. But you have to sacrifice #2 with #5 or vice versa..

For Singles Mode, You can only use 5 combinations, because you have a 5 way switch.

Mainly, using South or North won't differ in sound, but it will differ in the polarity. If one coil is only working, it is not a problem at all. If you are going to have 2 coils, they need to be Hum-Cancelling or else, the sound would be very thin and weak.

If we imagined the poles polarity phase like this:

Image

For Hum-Cancelling positions you have to choose different poles.

Either +====- with -====+ or vice versa... Got it?

Also, you have to be sure that the bridge pickup is inverted. It is not a must, but it is preferred to avoid confusion :D

For Example, If we imagened a Strat guitar with our HHH spliting, if you used South Coil in the neck switch positions, for position 2 (Neck + Middle ) is Hum-Cancelling, so you will need to have South Coil of Neck + North Coil in the Middle, like you exactly said in Combination #9 but it'll be series. Parallel will be very weak sounding.

A strat guitar has these 5 combination with a 5 way switch, You know them ofc. but The Bridge and neck are with same polarity phase, while the middle is inverted, so you can have Hum-Cancelling in positions 2 and 4

All we need is to figure out how to install the pickups.

I can't tell you a diagram, You can't achieve all that with a 5way multipole switch + 1 push/pull pot. You may add to add mini switches or toggle switchs. That will be the circuit very very complicated.

i think i will simplify my idea about it...

one question:
is possible use 2 Humbucker at time ?
like this:
(HUM COMBOS)
4. Full Neck Humbucker + Full Middle (is good combination?)
5. Full Neck Humbucker + Full Bridge ( " ) I thinks it will be powerfull...
6. Full Bridge Humbucker + Full Middle ( " )
7. Full Bridge + Middle + Neck (all in series, I think is not posibble or good)

Or not possible or good???
i think it will be a lot of resistance for the output, or viceversa?

i understand that is better, look only for have the common Humbucker combination and add 2 o 3 strat-like combination, and Nothing more... right?
all the position are not possible or usefull...
