RG7420: Can I swap Lo TRS 7 with a Lo Pro Edge 7 or Edge Pro 7?

Just as the title asks, I have the opportunity to buy a 2000 RG7420 in decent shape. However, I don't want the Lo TRS 7 on there, so I'll only buy it if I can swap it out with a Lo Pro Edge 7 or Edge Pro 7.

Are either of these a direct swap? I'll want to replace the trem studs with locking studs as well (something I do to all my guitars).

Thanks in advance.

to my knowledge NO.

The 6 string lo-trs will not swap with an original edge or a lo-pro. I am 99 percent sure it is the same on the 7 string.

I know you can swap out a lo-trs 6 string with an original floyd rose though.

I think the issue is the clearance for the trem's sustain block and the top route is too shallow for the thicker/deeper edge and lo-pro

Why don't you want the LO TRS 7 in there? Is it just because of the term "LO TRS" in the title? The only really crappy version was the LO-TRS II that was used on Korean made six string RGs and the like. The Japanese six string version "LO-TRS", and I believe the LO-TRS 7 were actually decent trems that didnt' wear out prematurely, and were capable of holding tune with a decent setup.

I hear what you're saying, but I'm a trem snob. I've tried many, including original Floyds and the newest Edge Zero's, and the only ones that feel right to me are the Lo Pro Edge and Edge Pro's (even though I got my start on the original Edge, it was never as comfortable to me as the LPE's and EP's).

This is why I'm a slave to the used Ibby market, can't stand the newer EZ trems.

That said, I've never actually played a Lo TRS, and might love it. Just not sure I want to take that chance and drop a few hundred bucks when I'm not 100% sure.

It's not a big job to retrofit an Edge 7 if you didn't like it anyway. The studs should be in the right place, and the cavity probably wouldn't need much work to fit the trem. You could do it by band with sand paper if you don't have a Dremel.

OH! The trem studs are all I'm concerned about, actually. I don't mind doing some modification to the trem cavity at all. If the studs are in the correct spot to accept a LPE7 or EP7, I just may have a new (old) guitar soon.
