It was a thing on ancient history or something like that. Something about god bringing life to a complete end.

I believe in Jesus. I hope everyone believes in a Holy god and not Satan. If you believe in Satan than thats your choice and won't degrade you.
I don't believe in either, and haven't for years now. I think there is a built in need in people to believe in something bigger than themselves, so that there is a built in (from the beginning) meaning or purpose in their lives. There certainly are enough flavors of religion to believe in currently available.

Bro that seriously had to suck donkey balls. Does it feel like your knocked out? I have been knocked out once and I about punch that nurse. She stuck me like 50 times with a needle trying to get a vein and was poking nerves or something I just fell over. Why did he slice you for?
It is odd; it is sort of like being asleep, as in 'totally off', but without the feeling of a passage of time that you'd feel when you wake up. I was dead, and back again, with no passage of time noted. I was later told by hospital staff it was about 93 seconds.
And he sliced my jugular vein with a box cutter for $2 dollars US.

He didn't get to spend it.

I had my throat slit by a crack addict back in '90 when I was driving a cab and finishing school (lost 9 1/2 pints of blood). I was dead for 93 seconds or so in the hospital. It's like being asleep, no angels, no music, lights off power down. No white lights and tunnels either when you bleed to death, as that is caused by rapid blood pressure dropping evidently.
WTF!!! Man thats so intense... awesome to hear you bounced back!!! Was there any element of pain? Did at any stage you know what was happening and have the whole life flash before your eyes thing happen? Because you lost so much blood, could you class it as similar in sensation to passing out?
Not to sound morbid, but its very fascinating!
Far out man...your family must have freaked out big time!!!! I would be beyond repair if that happened to my wife or kids...... dont even want to think about it!! Your parents had a nightmare that day!!!
Did you want to talk to addict that did it? I guess logic wouldnt play a part in any of his reasoning!!!
Anyhoo...welcome back bro!!!:D

Back to topic... i really dont know what to think about death..... but just like the Matrix...how do we know we are alive for sure?????

if you believe in god, you have to believe in satan too. one goes with the other right?
I think it's a case of following, as opposed to just accepting the existance of.
Just a rephrase of what Skins said.

The phrase "believe in" is commonly misinterpreted in religion. People think it means "worship".

So here's an example. Christians "believe" in God (as in they believe He exists), and they also "believe" in Satan (as in they believe he too exists).

The difference between the two? Well, whilst they believe that both God and Satan exist, they worship only God.

So really "believe in" means to believe they exist. It doesn't necessarily mean they are the deity of the religion involved.

Hope that helps.

Well, I was in a taxi; I had to keep it together to drive myself to a hospital emergency room. I was obeying red lights for about half the trip, that I remember pretty clearly. After that, I figured I'd just drive :) I didn't have my life pass before my eyes, but I did have a rather detached feeling that this was a bad thing happening to "him", as if I was somehow removed from the situation. Once I was driving and getting to the hospital I was pretty calm, and acting with a purpose.

My family was pretty upset, but another taxi driver that I worked with took 5 or 6 bullets from a 9MM that night as well, so I actually ended up lucky. this all happened in 1990, when crack cocaine was a very big thing in a lot of cities, and this all happened in what could be considered the South Bronx. Bad time, bad place. Lots of cab drivers were being robbed and killed because drug addicts saw them as roving cash machines.

The guy who robbed me and slit my throat got out of my cab and ran away in a straight line down the street (rather than getting up on the sidewalk and running down that). He somehow managed to get himself run over by a taxi before the police could catch him, so there's no more talking to him.

Anyhoo...welcome back bro!!!:D
Thanks, it's great to be here! :D

Well....does that really actually matter? ;) Your decisions influence your actions, that's what matters.

Well, I know one thing that happens when you die, your family has to pay WAY too much money to have your body buried/cremated.

Seems to me it would be alot cheaper if they just ground your body up and used it for fertilizer, and personally, when i'm dead i'm pretty sure i'll be finished with it so I reckon I won't mind. ;)

Rock on!

I hope there's electricity in heaven and an endless supply of strings. It's gonna be great, lessons with Hendrix one day, Chet Atkins the next, SRV, Jeff Healey.
.......... live your life with no limitations, don't judge others ( even if they do play a Fender or a Gibson ) and don't worry what people think of you.

When I die I want my body to be fed to a lion or a bear. Being fed to a great white shark would be pretty gnarly also! :)

What? Santa Claus doesn't exist???

I think that people can believe what they want to believe. If you want to believe in God/some other religious entity, so be it. I don't appreciate the people on here trying to push it on others though. That's not what this forum is for.

We can discuss this topic without pushing beliefs on one another.

My son was conceived the same year my Grandfather passed away. we gave my son my Grandfathers name as his middle name. I believe that I see glimmers of my Grandfather in my son.

So I guess I believe that some of our consciousness can pass on after the grave to others, maybe in our own families, maybe not. That's what I like to believe.
Funny you say that.
My Grandmother passed away and the same time 1 year later our son was born.
There was a bit of a coincidence there that I always thought about.

Aside from that, I've been having the same questions in my head for a while, and sadly I'm no closer to answering that question than when I was ignorant on the matter.
I like a lot of the beliefs out there, but the thing that bugs me the most, is the over zealous people telling you how you should worship, etc. Having no supreme being in the equation answers a LOT of questions.
Why is there war? Why wouldn't there be?
Why is there famine? Why not?
How could this terrible thing happen to someone so young?
Easy, if there is really no one watching over us or no one to say unequivocally that things we do are right or wrong. I'm not pointing the finger at any one religious group, every culture has them. The zealot who knows his/ her way is the only way.
No one knows, it's all based upon a feeling you get.
I would love to know how things will end up, and ultimately, I guess I'll find out.
My Grandfather told me this, and sometimes the thought just wakes me up out of a deep sleep, with impending doom on my mind, "None of us are getting out of this alive."

Kind of like riding that roller coaster, the one you were having 2nd thoughts about, but now you're on it. Buy the ticket, take the ride. You're going up, up, up, eventually you're going down, can't stop it.
*Shrug*
Enjoy life, share your time with those you love, share your self and your knowledge, and hope you leave things better than you found them. Religion aside, we'll all find out one way or another.

When you die, all biological functions within you cease. Upon discovery, your body will be delivered to a morgue for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. A relative, friend or colleague, depending on who can be reached, will be invited to confirm whether the body is "you" or not. Following the autopsy and confirmation of cause of death, the body will be collected by a mortician who will appropriately prepare the body for a funeral service. Some bodies are cremated, the ashes are collected and stored in an urn, given to the relatives of the deceased or friends if there happen to be no surviving relatives. The ashes will either be scattered or continue to stay in the urn. If buried in the ground, the body will gradually decompose at a reduced rate (having been embalmed at a mortuary) if buried at sea, the same thing will happen (not sure if decomposition is sped up or not after being buried at sea), if catapulted into the sky, the body will become an entertaining spectacle for all attending the service, crash into the ground somewhere and no doubt ruin an unfortunate resident's front lawn, all while being the most ludicrous dedication to an Eddie Izzard skit to have ever taken place.

All we are is dust in the wind.
Woah...

I believe you disconnect from all consciousness, like as if you go into absolutely nothing, no thoughts, feelings, NOTHING; THE COMPLETE opposite of everything, yet somehow you are still there
