Edge3 Replacement Tremolo (no mod-free upgrade except EdgePro)

I have an Edge3 Tremolo on one of my guitars and I want to replace it with something else. It's horrible and is tarnished and never stays in tune. I don't really want to shell out on another OFR, but I was thinking a really good licensed Floyd Rose would be good. Can anybody reccommend me something?

isn't the edge 3 rout the same as the edge pro 11? because your earlier post said the edge pro 2 and edge pro doesnt need routing work to retrofit an edge 3 rout. so im assuming the edge pro 2 and edge 3 sizes are the same. and my gotoh i used retrofitted mi edge pro 11 rout easily. so it should go in unless the edge 3 rout is smaller.

yep, but somehow you can't do vice versa. unluckily i forgot to take pics when i tried to fit a Gotoh in an Edge-III rout but i took one with a Schaller Floyd, which is exactly the same shape and dimensions of the Original Floyd and the Gotoh as well. it would fit dimensions-wise, but the post holes are moved too backward for the Gotoh knives to fit in. take a look...

Edge-Pro into an Edge-III rout: it fits.

Schaller (Gotoh) Floyd into an Edge-III rout: it doesn't fit.

shouldn't the edge pro fit easily in the (larger) edge/lopro cavity??
i think yes, but i'm not positive on that. if i remember correctly, the trem would touch just a bit right beneath the wings, where they attach to the "tail". check the pics:

Edge-Pro into Edge cavity (RG565): may fit.

and the knives/posts would match. but i'm not pretty sure, i can't remember exactly now, sorry.

there are signs telling me that Chef21's is a pre-03 RG, i.e. Lo-TRS, not Edge-III. in fact, the "new" trem he put in the Lo-TRS place is one of those licenseds with wide wings, not a Floyd-direct licensed (narrow wings) like the Schaller or the Gotoh. i tried to put a Schaller in an Edge-III cavity and it did barely fit in width. now, a wide-winged licensed wouldn't. check this pic:

now look at these pics, it's an Edge-III cavity, and look how narrower in comparison with Lo-TRS's, keep the pickups width or pickups' screws as a reference:

and look at the back of the cavity, they look different in the spring block's area:

(see slanted walls and routing on the bass strings side)

Image

(see square walls, and no routing on the bass strings side)

also, see how the tail's cavity is shorter than the baseplate cavity on the Edge-III:

in comparison with Lo-TRS's which has a tail cavity the same lenght of the baseplate cavity:

i may be wrong, but those cavities are different, and i can assure you that a wide-winged licensed WON'T fit the Edge-III cavity (unless you set it so high it stucks out of the cavity...). :
