Hey, Kurt Cobain is the reason I picked up a guitar. You don't like his music, tough, I do. Now, go read the rules on "flame bait" in the forum FAQ.

Francesco Fareri. He can play fast, that´s the only merit I can give to him.
Hes awesome very technical but i dont like the music too much,if you blind folded me and put rusty cooley in with him, i wouldnt be able to hear the diffrence because when your that fast its not music anymore.

"Worst" for me, would mean totally devoid of emotion, or feeling. With that in mind, i'd like to tip my hat to Chris Impelliteri, a guy who can play faster than the speed of light, but couldn't play with feeling or make a musical statement if his life depended on it.
I think a robot could play with more emotion than that guy.
peace

I like to think of him as a bullet catcher- and he did a great job!
Well, that's just immature, stupid, and disgusting.

And this whole thread's not a huge amount better.

If any of you become famous, it's likely we'll be sitting here with someone saying how much you suck. If everyone's opinion was fact, then there would be no good guitarists in the world, because everyone has their own opinion of what they like and don't like. I personally don't hate any guitarists, there's just some I don't bother listening to because they don't interest me. That's all there is to it. You don't like it? Turn it off, walk away, and get on with your life.

I'm with you there bro ;) That wasn't the classiest remark I've ever heard and as I am a fan of Kurt's music I was more than a little P****d!

8O WOW! Tough crowd!!! I must be getting old.
Just can't see how someone getting into such a state that they shoot themselves in the head is humourous.

Yeah, honestly, guys... Regardless of whether or not you like his music, Kurt was probably responsible for more people in my generation first pickup up a guitar than all the traditional Jemsite influences (Satch/Vai/Yngwie/etc) combined. Sure, a lot of them never got past powerchords, but for every one who didn't, there's one like me who did and got completely hooked on the instrument.

You may not personally like the guy, but jesus, have some respect. that's a horrible way to talk about anyone, especially a fellow guitarist.

IMO you can never be a bad guitarist (read musician/artist), you're a bad artist if you claim to be as good as <insert name> and are not.

It's a taste-thing to like someone; and it's an attitude-thing to be a good artist or not. Don't mix them up.

Well, everyone has a different sense of humor. I don't take life too seriously, even death. The notion that we owe a drug user respect for committing suicide seems a bit ludicrous.

Finally, just because Kurt influenced a lot of people doesn't really mean anyone should respect him all that much. Britney Spears has undoubtedly influenced a ton of young women singers but it doesn't make her any better than a terrible singer in my eyes.

We can all agree on that one ;).

Agreed. Kurt Cobain was cool.

It seems that just being very famous for musical talent makes you over rated. IMO John Petrucci is awesome and definetly not over rated in my eyes, well at least here in australia, jesus we hardly ever hear of him.

Yep, I am not a big Petrucci fan either. And I think that CC rocks.

I think that this whole Kurt Cobain thing is quite interesting.

There is no doubt that he was one of the most influential figures of the late 20th century, whether you are a fan or not (and I'm not) you have to agree. For me the problem with bands like Nirvana is that while they did encourage lots of people to pick up the guitar, it didn't necessarily encourage good musicianship (not saying he wasn't a good guitar player, but that seems to have been the message). If you look at his custom fenders, they were two not great guitars spliced together, to make another not very original, not great guitar. It has meant that Jagstangs, music masters etc are now fetching much more/similar money to better quality '80s guitars (which is great if you own a music master that has quadrupled in value of the last 10 years, and like buying cheap pointy headstock guitars, again I do). I think for that reason alone he ranks for me as one of my worst guitarists.

I still think Noel Gallagher is the most over-rated (worst famous bloke), least original player I have heard.
