OK, let me get a word in here. Pink/yellow/green guitars does NOT equal big hair, spandex, hairspray, etc. I am a pretty average looking guy, I have short hair, I don't wear tight pants, I am over 30 and I have no desire to look like that, no desire to go on stage looking like that, I just like the colours. I cannot stand the metallic black and god awful dull blue's that are being offered now.
Now, those bright colours don't even remind me of the 80's. Sure, when was playing in rock bands and did have long hair, I owned 2 Ibanez guitars in cool colours (purple neon and road flare red). I didn't care whether they were in fashion, I don't currently care about fashion, and I think Ibanez shouldn't either. What they should be doing is creating interesting guitars, setting trends as they have done before, and not worrying about what's in fashion, because that, my friends, is for LOSERS with David Beckham haircuts.
People tell me that those colours wouldn't sell.
BS. I
know for a fact that they would. The demand for them is massive. Don't believe it? Look at the comments that people add along with their signatures in the
Ibanez Colour Choice Petition. Don't want a brightly coloured guitar? Fine. Ibanez should be offering all the current bland colours such as dark blue, black, grey, etc. along with the colours that most of us
really want. For every person who wants a bland colour, there's probably 10 who want a neon. There are many people like me who will not buy an Ibanez nowadays because they look boring, they don't have maple boards anymore, they don't have colour matched headstocks, and the pizazz has gone. Look at the range in the pic below. People have said it'd cost lots of money for Ibanez to reintroduce more colours. Why? Does green paint cost more than navy blue? People have said to me that there's no demand for bright colours. And I ask you, is there demand for "cubed black pewter" on the RG2620? Yeah right! I haven't seen a single person playing this guitar in "cubed black pewter", a cheap looking crappy finish. So how come other manufacturers can offer a good range of colours and Ibanez can't? Do they really think they are supplying what people want nowadays? Well they are wrong, and I cannot state this enough. No matter what people say, I know that those of us asking for a little more choice are right. Ibanez are out of touch.
